1. Will GUIguide and ColdFusion 5 run on Windows 2003/IIS 6?

Yes, GUIguide will run on Windows 2003. To install ColdFusion 5 on Windows 2003 with IIS 6 please follow the instructions given in the following document:
Installing ColdFusion on Windows 2003 with IIS 6

2. After installing ColdFusion 5 on Windows 2003, I see the following error message “This application has failed to start because WINSTRM.dll was not found”. How do I resolve this?

This problem is related to the ColdFusion Monitoring Service. The CF Monitoring service is not required to run GUIguide and therefore you can safely disable this service to resolve the above issue.

3. Is there a way to control how long we can have GUIguide™ open before it times out?

ColdFusion Server has a default session timeout value, which is 20 minutes. You can change this value in the ColdFusion Administrator. Given below are the instructions to do the same: (GUIguide supports a session up to 60 minutes.)

a) Open the ColdFusion Administrator on your server (Start menu > Programs > Macromedia > ColdFusion > Administrator)
b) The program will ask for a password. Please type in the password that you had provided when you installed ColdFusion server.
c) Click on Memory Variables under Server Settings in the sidebar menu.
d) Change the Maximum Timeout value of Session Variables to 60 minutes.
e) Close the Administrator page.

4. Why am I not getting the results I expect from searching GUIguide™?

If you aren’t getting the search results you expect, try the following:

If you’re not getting as many hits on your search as you expect, try broadening your topic area. For example, filtering the results of a search by setting the pull down control at the bottom of the tools menu on the left side of your screen to “All” or to “Web-C/S” will give you far more results than searching by C/S” or “Web” alone.

Also, check the Search “Tips” link for help on how to word your search. For example, GUIguide’s search engine looks for an exact match with the phrase you entered. That is, if you typed
Radio buttons
In the search box, you will get only the results containing the exact phrase “radio buttons.” If you want to search for all entries that include the words “radio” OR the word “buttons”, you need to type one of the following in the search box:
Radio, buttons
or
Radio or buttons.

5. How do I move GUIGuide™ to a new server without losing any of my content?

Following these steps will help you transfer GUIguide™ to a new server without losing any of the content you’ve already entered or changed:

a. Install the same version of GUIguide that was running on the previous server to the new server using the installation CD. Remember to install ColdFusion before installing GUIguide, as per the instructions on the installation CD.

b. Copy your existing database from the old server to the new server. You can find this database under the name guideline.mdb. This file should be located in the path "..\Program Files\Classic System Solutions Inc\GUIguide\". First, make a backup copy of this file. Then make another copy and move it to the new server in the same directory (..\Program Files\Classic System Solutions Inc\Guiguide\), overwriting the file of the same name that was created during the new installation process.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a backup of your existing database file (guideline.mdb, in the old server) before doing this transfer!

c. Now, re-index your GUIguide™ database using the re-indexing utility in the Administrator Tools menu.

6. Where are the GUIguide program files and database stored on my server? How do I take a backup of our existing database before upgrading to a newer release?

a) The GUIguide program files are stored under your web server document directory (i.e. "..\InetPub\Wwwroot\") in four folders named 'admin', 'guidelines', 'ggimages' & 'imgresce'.

b) The data & verity collection directories are stored under the folder "..\Program Files\Classic System Solutions Inc\Guiguide\". Please make sure that you save a backup of the database file (guideline.mdb) in a different location and on a different drive if possible, before upgrading to a newer release.

c) The registry values are stored under "\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Guiguide\CurrentVersion" in your Windows registry. The following are the three values need to run GUIguide:

"Path" - This value should contain the physical path to your web server document directory where GUIguide program files are stored (i.e. "C:\InetPub\Wwwroot").
"PathDB" - This value should contain the physical path to the folder where GUIguide data files are stored (i.e. "C:\Program Files\Classic System Solutions Inc\GUIguide")
"Serial" - This value should contain the product serial number of the installed version of GUIguide (i.e. "GG22ENT-xxxx-xxxx").

7. I’ve gotten e-mail from Classic System Solutions telling me that updates are available for GUIguide™, but when I try to get the updates from the Administrator menu, nothing happens. What’s the problem?

If you have a current subscription to GUIguide™, but are not able to receive updates, check the following:

a) Make sure you’re logged in as a “content manager”, as only content managers are able to request updates from within the GUIguide™ application.

b) (Something about firewalls and why they may not allow update information to get passed through to the application.) If this is the case, contact Classic System Solutions for information on how to install the updated guidelines locally.

8. I forgot my password. How do I retrieve it?

a) Ask your GUIguide administrator to retrieve your password.
b) If you are the administrator, contact support@classicsys.com.

9. The name of the guideline I entered was truncated. What’s going on?

Check to make sure there are no quotation marks in the guideline name. If a quotation mark is included, GUIguide will cut off everything from the quote mark forward.

10. I’m using the Apache web server on a Windows NT system. How do I configure it to work with GUIguide™?

You will need to customize Apache to run with ColdFusion, using a patch supplied by which is supplied with Apache’s documentation. Here are the steps:

a) When you install ColdFusion, the installation program will not detect Apache on your system. Select "Other Server" and specify your web document root as “...apache group/apache/htdocs” when prompted by the installation program.
b) Locate the file ApacheModuleColdFusion.dll in the “…cfusion\bin” directory and copy it to the “...apache group/apache/modules” directory.
c) Edit the httpd.conf file to include the following directive (this should be all on one line):
LoadModule coldfusion_module modules/ApacheModuleColdFusion.dll
d) Restart Apache.

11. How do I configure iPlanet Web Server (iWS) to work with GUIguide™?

Since iPlanet Web Server 4.x was released after ColdFusion 4.0 the ColdFusion installation will not automatically detect this web server to function properly. Please follow the steps detailed below:

Follow these steps to modify obj.conf and mime.types files in your Netscape server directory (e.g. C:\Netscape\, use the Windows Find tool to search for the files if needed). Please go through the notes below before making the changes:

Note:

- There is multiples of each of these files within the Netscape directory structure. Make sure you don't modify the one in the "backup" or "install" directories.
- Make sure the lines you add (below) are all on 1 line.
- Netscape is case sensitive, so add the lines exactly as you see them below.

1. Add the following line to obj.conf and change the drive letter/path depending on where you installed ColdFusion:

Init fn="load-modules" funcs="DoCFRequest" shlib="C:/CFUSION/Bin/NS35CF.DLL"

2. After the following line in the obj.conf:

Service method =(GET|HEAD) type="magnus-internal/imagemap" fn="imagemap"

Create a new line and add this line:

Service fn="DoCFRequest" method="(GET|POST)" type="magnus-internal/cold-fusion"

3. Add the following line to mime.types:

type=magnus-internal/cold-fusion exts=dbm,cfm,dbml,cfml

Finally after making and saving the changes, go into the Web Server Administrator (Start/Programs/iPlanet Web Sever/Administer Web Server, select a server and click on 'Manage'). It will ask you to save manually configured changes. Click Apply to save. Some customers have found they have to view the ColdFusion mime.types even after saving as the program adds a special character to the end of the line that can't be deleted. Simply viewing mime.types after making these changes resolves the problem. Then restart your computer.

12. How do I configure IIS to work with ColdFusion?

1. Select Start > Programs > Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack > Microsoft Internet Information Service > Internet Service Manager

2. Right click on the Computer Name under Console Root > Internet Information Server and click on Properties

3. Click on the Edit button for the Master Property: WWW Service

4. Go to the Home Directory tab and click on Configuration button for Application Settings

5. Under Application Mappings make sure there are mappings for .cfm and .dbm. If not, add them:
a) Click on Add button. Browse or type "C:\Cfusion\Bin\ISCF.DLL" in the textbox for Executable and .cfm as Extension.
b) Similarly add mapping for .dbm with "C:\Cfusion\Bin\ISCF.DLL" as Executable

6. Click on the Edit button for both the mappings and make sure the check box for Script engine is selected.

7. Click Ok for all the windows and return

13. We are planning to migrate GUIguide from MS Access to MS SQL Server. What steps do we need to take to do this process?

We have detailed information on this in GUIguide installation notes titled Migrating GUIguide from Access to SQL Server. Here's a copy of the document:
Migrating GUIguide from MS Access to MS SQL Server

14. Do we need to create a login ID in SQL Server with database permissions?

Having an admin id in SQL Server is optional and it depends on what kind of security you want. When you set up the data source, you have two options to specify on how SQL Server should verify the authenticity of the login ID: 'With NT authentication' or 'With SQL Server authentication'. If you choose SQL Server authentication, then you'll need to specify a login ID and password created in the Enterprise Manager with 'public' and 'dbowner' rights to the login. If you go with this option, you'll also need to specify that login ID and password in a particular text file under the GUIguide 'admin' folder. You'll find detailed information on this in GUIguide installation notes titled Migrating GUIguide from Access to SQL Server.

15. Should SQL Server be in the same machine where GUIguide is installed?

No, as long as you can create a data source and connect to SQL Server from the machine where GUIguide is installed, it could be in a different machine.

16. Is there a way to automate a re-index of the search results? Could we schedule it to run on off hours - like every night at a certain time?

Yes, please follow the instructions given in the following document:
Automate the Indexing process

17. I am having trouble using some of the Admin utilities pages in GUIguide. I get Java Errors. How do I resolve this?

Please apply the hot fix (on your web server) as mentioned in the following Macromedia web site:
